Graybeard North Face

Graybeard North Face

Next technical section after the long snow slope. Basically the real start of the face. The route description says to take a left diagonaling ice band, to the left of the center ice band. The center ice band was half there and there were no other bands, so we went all the way up to the right and traversed left on a rock ledge to get below the start of the center ice band - which had some excellent ice climbing!

Lean

Nice shot Doug. Looks a lot leaner this year. Awesome job on your climb.

ya, rocky

Thanks! It was pretty lean. On the way up the snow slope I kept looking all the way around for alternate ways. Way to the left there is a hidden snow gully that gets you up to the next section, bypassing the initial ice bands. I was hoping we wouldn't have to do that since it seemed less direct, easier, and not as aesthetic.
