Climbed from Black Mountain Campground, not long after it reopened after closing for bear activity. Unfortunately, the fire tower was still closed for renovation, but it looked like it would not be long before reopening. Difficult hike going up, easy down.
I hiked the Lost Cove Ridge trail from the Black Mountains Campground at the base of Mount Mitchell to the top of Green Knob. It was 40-50 degrees at the bottom and freezing cold at the top. On the top 500 feet, the ground was frozen solid.

Nice climb up Green Knob from base. Views were great. We did this hike as part of the Carolina Mountain Club's LTC Challenge.
