I've done all the 4000 footers, and most of the 3000 footers in Vt. For those who are going to do Mansfield there is another easy day hike, with good views up Mt Hunger. It's only a half hour from Mansfield and is suitable for dogs, kids, but has a surprising big mountain feel at the top.
