Overview

Il versante occidentale di Cima d Asta
Il versante occidentale di Cima d'Asta.
Cima d Asta dal Passo Cinque Croci
Cima d'Asta from Passo Cinque Croci.
Cima d'Asta Group, erroneously considered by many people as a section of Lagorai Group, is situated in the eastern part of Trentino, between Valsugana and Lagorai.
Made up by granite, unlike Lagorai Group that is made by porphyry, it has a form like a horseshoe, with Cima d'Asta m 2847 in the middle. The geographic borders are formed by Val Cìa, furrowed by Torrente Vanòi, at north and at east, by Val Campelle and Val Calamento at west, and by the road that goes from Valsugana to Tesino and Passo Brocòn at south. It's connected with Lagorai Group by Passo Cinque Croci at NO.
It is divided in three subgroups: Central - Tolvà ( at east ) - Rava ( at west ).

CENTRAL SUBGROUP

It's situated between Forcella Magna at west and Forcella di Val Regana at east and it's commanded by the main summit of the Group, Cima d' Asta. It's bounded by Val Sorgazza at west, by Val Cìa at north, Val Regana and Val Tolvà at east, Val Malène at south.
There are six main ridges that branch out from the main summit: Socede Ridge, at SO, covered by a wonderful path, Campagnassa Ridge, more harsh, the east ridge that starts from Forcella di Val Regana and culminates in La Banca m 2729, very difficult, the wild ridge of Col del Vento at NE, very long but covered by an easy and beatiful path, the NO ridge with Cima Corma and the not very known ridge ONO, rocky and short.
The main summits of this subgroup are:

Cima d' Asta m 2847
Col del Vento m 2634
Cima Corma m 2507
Campagnassa m 2409

Cima d'Asta m 2847

It's the main summit of the Group. Some meters under the top there is a bivouac dedicated to Giuseppe Cavinato, with six couchettes, that offers a good shelter in case of bad weather. The routes of climbing that I indicate are four:

NORMAL ROUTE : from Brentari hut h 1.15 Easy.
From the hut you follow the path n. 364 that goes up to
Forzelletta m 2680, then goes down as far as a basin
called "Lastè dei Fiori". Here you cross on the left and
go up along the East side of the mountain.

FROM BRENTARI HUT ALONG SOUTH CANAL AND WEST RIDGE : h 1.00 More
challenging than the previous.
From the west shore of Cima d'Asta Lake you go up along the canal
( danger of falling rocks ), arriving then on the ridge at Bocchetta
del Canalòn m 2664. Now, following the signs, you go on the right
overcoming some easy rocks.

FROM FORCELLA DI VAL REGANA : variant of the Normal Route h 2.15
About 50 meters under Forcella di Val Regana, on the north side, you
follow the trace that leads to the path n. 364. Now you follow this
path as far as the basin called "Lastè dei Fiori": here the path
connects with the upper part of Normal Route.

FROM VAL CIA ALONG THE COL DEL VENTO RIDGE : long route, but very
interesting. To recommend to experts, because in the upper part
there is some exposed passage h 5.30
From the church of Prònt m 1041 in Val Cìa you follow the forest road
as far as a crossroads: you turn on the right and go as far as the sign
for Col del Vento. Now you follow the path going up through the wood;
when you go out of the wood, you pass throgh exposed rocks with a metal
fixed rope crossing the east side of Col del Vento. So you arrive to a
saddle at south-west of Col del Vento. Now you go up along a slope
under Cima dei Diavoli, pass under Forcella dei Diavoli and join with
the last part of the Normal Route.

Col del Vento m 2634

Beautiful mountain, at NE of Cima d'Asta on the left side of Val
Regana.
NORMAL ROUTE : from the saddle m 2500 at East of Col del Vento, near
which you pass during the climb of Cima d'Asta seen above, following
the traces in 0.30 hours. Easy.

Cima Corma m 2507

NORMAL ROUTE : Easy. h 3.00
From Malga Socede Alta m 1728 in high Val Cìa. You go beyond Vallone
del Coronòn, going up in direction NE and follow the traces of path
that leads to the summit along the west side of the mountain.

TOLVA' SUBGROUP

It's bounded by Val Malène, Val Tolvà and Val Regana at West, Val Cìa
at North and East, by the road that goes from Castèl Tesino and Canal
San Bovo at South.
The subgroup takes the name from the summit most known and
central, but not the highest, Monte Tolvà.
The main summits are:

Col della Croce m 2436
Monte Conte Moro m 2405
Monte Tolvà m 2343
Palòn della Cavallara m 2201

RAVA SUBGROUP

Cima Trento m 2530
Cima Orsèra m 2469
Monte Cengello m 2439
Cimòn Rava m 2436
Cima delle Buse Todesche m 2413

Note: for the description of this subgroup please see the excellent
work of TIZIANA in LAGORAI GROUP.

REFUGES AND BIVOUACS

There is only one refuge:
Rifugio Ottone Brentari m 2476, on the shore of a wonderful
mountain lake under the south wall of Cima d'Asta. It is
eachable mainly from Malga Sorgazza, in the valley with the
same name, in three hours of walk.
Two bivouacs offer shelter to the hikers:
Capanna Giuseppe Cavinato m 2840 ( just under the summit of Cima
d'Asta )
Bivacco Argentino Vanìn m 2159 ( in Rava Subgroup )

Getting There

Eastern Trentino
Eastern Trentino
Cima d Asta Group
Cima d'Asta Group
Cima d Asta Group
Cima d'Asta Group
If you come from West or North, you must first reach the town of Trento ( with train or car ), and then go in Valsugana, that begins just a few kilometers from Trento in the direction of Bassano del Grappa and Padova. When you are a little further on Borgo Valsugana, you turn on the left in the direction of Passo del Brocòn. When you are at Pieve Tesino, you turn on tje left again and go up along Sorgazza Valley as far as Malga Sorgazza.
If you come from South you can indifferently reach Trento or Bassano del Grappa. If you choose this second way, you must go up along Valsugana as far as the crossroads to Passo Brocòn and here turn on the right. The road remaining is the same seen on. This is also the only suited way if you come from East.
The nearest airports are Venezia Tessèra and Verona Villafranca.
