eric-grizOne of my faves!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 28, 2002

One of my favorite highpoints. I've hiked up it several times. My favorite time, however, was the first time in the April snow!

reboylesHarney Peak  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 5, 2007

My wife, dog and I hiked up from Sylvan Lake on a picture perfect fall day. The campgrounds had recently closed and there were very few people on the mountain this day. The aspen were in their peak colors and the temperature ranged from the 50s to low 70s. Even though all of the western highpoints are much taller and more difficult than Harney Peak, this is one summit to not miss.

ZandtVery popular hike!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 2, 2007

Easier hike than I'd anticipated...hiked on Labor Day weekend, so Sylvan Lake (and the trail) were both very, very busy. Beautiful up top, with great views in all directions, and, inexplicably, swarms of ladybugs EVERYwhere.

TLPSylvanLake #9  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 19, 2007

This was an easy hike from the lake. I wanted to start out early, like daybreak, but I was talking to the ranger the day beforehand while in Custer State Park, and he advised not to do that because there was reportings of mountain lions in the area this year. So I followed his advise, and got a late start for me (9am) It was partly cloudy on the top, so there was limited views, still it was very nice. On the way down there was LOTS of people heading up. I mean like maybe 50 or so! My gosh I guess this one is popular.

After hiking up the Little Devils Tower, we continued on Trail 4 to the top of Harney Peak. The hike took us through moving clouds, with lots of breezy cool mists. Many other hikers were on the trail, and we got the chance to visit with a few. The hike from the Little Devils Tower took about an hour. Spectacular views!

Climbed with my wife and son Ryan. Nice hike with spectacular views of Custer State Park. Took 1.5 hours to climb and we had the summit to ourselves. Spent an hour on top. Camped at Sylvan Lake. HP #22.

Date Climbed: May 29, 2004
3-year anniversary date for climbing Harney Peak. It was beautiful! I was up & down in 4 hours, including spending over an hour at the summit. Several mountain goats were up there, getting highpoint credit as well. It's not too difficult of a hike, and the scenery is amazing! Rains came after I got down. Lucky me.

Camped in a KOA, one of the biggest ones I saw up to this day...
Some 600 campsites... it was huge...
Found Sylvan Lake; what a nice place to stay;
We almost ran out of water on the way up;
I had to get down and get some more before getting to the top!!

highicespeedy hike  Sucess!
ran up to the summit. coming down, I was slowed by a horse carivan. the young cowboy said I may as well stay behind, since horses are faster than hikers. I asked to pass and was finishing my lunch at the T.H. when he arrived with his guided clients. maybe he'll think twice before saying those words again to a hiker.
