Heart of a dying glacier

Heart of a dying glacier

Taken inside a small ice cave at Hinman Glacier in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, WA. The Mount Daniel quad, 1965 indicates a large glacier 1.4 miles long. By September of 2004, when I visited the glacier, it had melted to half that length and separated into several disjunct icefields. Many of the Cascade glaciers are disappearing, quickly.

Re: Beautiful

Thanks, It does pair nicely with a good slot canyon photo, for contrast.
