heave ho

Here is the classic SP ass shot By the way, these REI hiking pants are the worst. They completely fell apart. (note the red tape of left leg!)

Re: I like...

Ya, theses crampons work well on small winter hikes. I know a lot of people poo-poo them, but I've found them to be extremely versitile for winter hiking. They'll fit any boot and so far, I haven't killed myself. ha My favorite combo is to strap them onto Sorrels. mmm...my feet stay warm as cinnamon toast and "look ma, no blisters!". (I'm not climbing frozen waterfalls, tho'.) -Cheers

Re: I like...

Cool. Just wanted to mention that I wasn't trying to "poo-poo" your crampons. You should have seen the ancient ice tools I used on most of my ice climbs ;)
This picture reminds me a photo of Michael Kennedy on the FA of the Infinite Spur on Mt. Foraker. In the photo he's wearing similar crampons and using a wooden shaft ice axe. The caption says: Michael Kennedy propelled by commitment not equipment on the FA of Infinite Spur. A classic shot.
Cheers!

Re: I like...

Oh, Gosh, I'm really sorry. I didn't take your comment about my crampons that way at all. I was just saying, in general, people seem to discourage them. (I guess the hinge aspect is thought to be less stable.) You'll laugh when I tell you that right before we climbed Rainer, we went into the their museum and low and behold, there was my husband's ice axe displayed along side other antique climbing artifacts. Soon afterwards, he got a new one. ha ha
