Hedgehog mushroom

Hedgehog mushroom also known as Wood Hedgehog - Polish: Kolczak (Hydnum repandum or Dentinum repandum) is common in Polish forests. It can be found from July to November. Its cap is from 2 to 17 cm wide and its colors range from pale orange to tan. The most characteristic features of this mushroom are the spines on its underside. The spines can be up to 6 mm long. Hedgehog mushrooms are edible, but are only tasty when fresh. The Low Beskid - Magura National Park - Slope of Mount Ferdel - August 2008

Our local hedgehogs are so ugly

I still can't convince anyone to join me in feasting on them. Silvery grey "teeth" and black tiles over brow-grey "roof". Check Sarcodon imbricatus images online to appreciate the looks LOL

Thank you for the information. In Poland people are not very excited about Hedgehog mushrooms on their plates either. That's why they are so plentiful in the forests because hardly anyone picks them up. Greetings, Henryk.
