| The highpoint of New Jersey is in the High Point State Park in the far North-West corner of the state, just a few miles from Port Jervis, NY. It's an easy drive from New York City, but it's just far enough out that as you get within 30 miles or so of the park, the slums have given way to suburbs and the suburbs have given way to rolling hills with pretty fields, farms and forests. I arrived at the end of September and the road was lined with farmer's stands selling pumpkins and chrysanthemums; the weather was a perfect warm autumnal afternoon and the view from New Jersey's highest point was lovely. Hawks soared in the sky over the valley and the leaves were just showing a hint of color. The park entrance is on the right of Rt 23 North, and a paved road leads from the entrance all the way up to the 200-foot mini-Washington Monument with parking at the foot. Directions to High Point, NJ from the the NYC area (east/south) From the South: Take I-287 to Rt 23 North From the GW Bridge: Take I-80 West to Rt 23 North Follow Rt 23 North High Point State Park ~ 7 miles north of Sussex, NJ ~ 3 miles north of Colesville, NJ The road goes directly up to the monument at the summit with parking just below | ||

| I have lived in Jersey for 18 years and been hiking in Jersey for at least 10 years, this was the first time that I hiked to the state's high point. I drove up once in the winter about 12 years ago but to me, that did not count. The day was very clear. I could see the Catskills, and the Delaware Water Gap. | ||

| Enjoyed High Point. Nice views I didn't think possible in NJ. Clear morning for the most part, but it was TOO hot! The second time I went to High Point was 10/31/08. It was days after a rare October snowstorm hit the State. I made a trip report about it | ||

| This is a nice little mountain for being in New Jersey. It's got great views all around. Very windy most times that I've been there. They say you can see NYC on a clear day, but I've never seen it from here myself. Fitting for New Jersey that it should have a giant concrete monument on its highest point. And that is in a constant state of repair. I've been at the summit maybe over 10 times and I've yet to climb the momument cause its always closed for some reason. | ||

| I love the view on a clear day. So far both times I've been there, the monument has been closed for repairs. Bears are active in the area. Be careful if camping along the trail. | ||

| At the conclusion of a business trip that took me to Hazelton, PA, I made the side trip out to High Point State Park. After parking in the AT lot, I jogged from the park gate along the road and up the route that I took this past winter. I took pictures to replace those that were lost when my computer self-destructed earlier this year, before I could back them up. It was a nice run in moderate temps. | ||

| I parked at the Interpretive Center and snowshoed beside the road for awhile before breaking off onto an unmaintained XC trail that took me directly to the summit. It was windy but not too cold, and the views were great! | ||

| Got lost, but made the summit, which was very pretty, and suprisingly impressive for New Jersey. New Jersey's neighbor Delaware has a crappy, no, super crappy high point, and New Jersey has a really cool one. Oh when, oh when, will they open that monument? Who cares, the view from the summit is fine without it. | ||

| Very windy and surprisingly cold, even for February. I can see the entire breadth of the Garden State from here, even as far as the 'Gunks up in NY state. | ||
