Rabenwaldkogel

Do you know which summits are these? Do I see well that the left one is Rabenwaldkogel, and the right one is Kulm? If yes, then I would utilize your photo at my page about Rabenwaldkogel (I need such a nice panoramic photo). But I would utilize it only if it certainly shows the abovementioned hills

Re: Rabenwaldkogel

I've got no idea but the town below is Weiz and the hill with the mine on the left is called Landscha. I'm sure you can find the names of the others with a map.

Re: Rabenwaldkogel

I actually had a quick look and I think it has good chances to be your hill. I didn't expect it to be already on SP and posted by you !!

Re: Rabenwaldkogel

We often cross our ways: in the Tatras, in Spisska Magura, and here near Weiz. Just always with a half year difference :)

Re: Rabenwaldkogel

I might plan a trip to Hochschwab some time during the year.. if you're interested...

Re: Rabenwaldkogel

I constantly keep Hochschwab in my memory - despite it looks to be not a very exciting mountain. There is something in the nearby - even in better logistic situation: Schneeberg and Raxalpe. Excellent dramatic hills, with excellent and different levels of Klettersteig routes. I plan to go there twice this year. What about one of these rather than Hochschwab?

Re: Rabenwaldkogel

Also a possible idea. I was "studying" these hills for the cycling purpose and it looks like only Rax has such access possibility. Schneeberg and Schneealpe are rather for hiking. All of them are slightly closer from Wien then from where I live, than Hochschwab, so why not. On the other hand, despite not too high, I have the feeling from pictures that Hochschwab looks very dolomitic and somehow more impressive. And there is a long traverse to make on it.
Keep me informed about your plans to go to Austria !

Re: Rabenwaldkogel

Do you plan cycling or hiking? I think it's a basic question. Rax, Schneeberg and Schneealpe are not for cycling. They have vertical walls practically from all sides. With a plateau on the top (may be good for cycling) - but you cannot really get to the top with your cycle. I thought not really about hiking but more on Klettersteig climbs (level B/C or level 3 that means mid level).

I must admit that I don't know so much about Hochschwab. I looked at the map (1:150000) so not too many details and from there it gave a not very impressive look. I thought it was cristallic - many of the neighbouring hills are boring cristallic hills. If it's dolomitic, then obviously it must have a better look!

Re: Rabenwaldkogel

I know what you mean. But I have bought this map in purpose to look for possible cycling trips - sporty ones, as I like them. Schneealpe (and not Rax, sorry) is the exception with a land rover track leading to kurtatsch hutte.
Well I think this area deserves a twice with both ways - one on foot, one by bike, with other hills around but not less attractive (there are a lot ! Stuhleck for example).

About Hochschwab, I meant limestone. Dolomote of Cristallic, whatever ! Very different than Tatras indeed. Read more about it and give me a sign if you're convinced it's worth going :)
p.s: do you use Skype or GGtalk ?

Re: Rabenwaldkogel

I had a nearer look and I found that "unfortunately" these hills are Hohe Zetz and Trennstein, 8 km west to Rabenwaldkogel. So I can't utilize your photo. What is at the right side of your pic in the background, that ridge belongs to Rabenwaldkogel
