Hotlum-Wintun Ice Chute

Hotlum-Wintun Ice Chute

3-September-2006: Looking up ice chute just above the Hotlum-Wintun snowfield. Angle was mostly about 35-40 degrees, probably 40-45 at most, with slightly steeper bulges here and there. The ice was highly featured, and aerated near the surface.
Taken from the first belay after simulclimbing two rope lengths. Next lead was mine :)
To the climber's right of this chute is a rock ridge, and to the right of this ridge is another ice gully which starts at the Hotlum Glacier bergschrund. We could have crossed over into the top of that gully at the gap below the rock buttress (top right).
