Great photoOf course the photo doesn't really convey the scale... I would imagine it was out of this world to actually be there, with those 2 behemoths towering over.
Do the Andes get better than this?

You're right, it's impossible to understand the true size of these mountains by just looking at this photo. There is no better way to understand the size of these things than climbing them!
From this viewpoint, it's 4000m or so to the summit, and only a few hundred of those are on the road. From 3100m upwards, it's leg work.
The edge of the glaciers is roughly at 5000m, and while the refuge just below it, at 4650m, can easily be reached on the first day, it's a whole different ball game after that, thanks to the glaciers and the thin air.
