Huckleberry

Huckleberry

During late summer, huckleberries make tasty snacks at higher elevations along the trail. Prior to European settlement, the Northern Molalla Indians used these uplands for hunting and gathering. Indians from the Warm Springs Reservation continued to pick huckleberries along the Table Rock Trail into the 1930s. It is speculated that the Table Rock Trail was one of the routes regularly used by the Molalla to cross the Cascades for the purposes of trade, raiding, warfare, social interaction and contact, gathering, and maintaining kin relationships.
