| This is a formidable mountain in the right weather. High winds, heavy snow, but with the right gear it's all good. | ||

| I lost a contact on the way up and found it on the way down. That was the most exciting part of the day. We considered the Peak, but weather looked iffy. | ||

| My second. We weren't even planning on climbing it that day, so we got a late start. Made it to the saddle and just kept going. Very windy at the top, saw two other people all day. | ||

| I think there are more marmots on this mountain than on any other Colorado 14er I ahve been on. This is a great mountain to take a nap at the top on. =-] | ||

| K_G_Wright | Playground Indeed ![]() Date Climbed: Sep 16, 2005 | |
| After an unsuccessful attempt at Crestone's N.W. Couloir, I turned around, returned to Bear's Playground, ascended the high unnamed peak, and then hit Humboldt on my way back to my South Colony Lake camp. A playground indeed! | ||

| Wanted to do Kit Carson but got waylaid by a leaky hydration bladder, started up at 5:35AM and reached an empty summit at 8:35. Pretty wet day all-and-all, but the weather held long enough, back to my truck at 10:38AM. My 30th 14'er on this fine wet morning. Sweet!! | ||

| Natasha | Fabulous Day on the East Ridge! ![]() Date Climbed: Jul 29, 2007 | |
| It was cloudy and foggy the entire journey which made the ascent easier. Small clouds kept enveloping us as we traversed up the mountain which made the Humboldt drop off even more dramatic. The East ridge was great, saw a lot of wildlife, but no other people until the summit...where we saw ~20 people and more on their way up. | ||

| Summited just before heading out of the fabulous Crestone group. It happened to be BlueSkyGirl's birthday - so I dedicated the climb to her. Great peak - beautiful shape - easy walk-up. The clouds all around made for great pictures. Lovely! | ||

| Natasha | East ridge, early storm, no summit Date Climbed: Jun 3, 2007 | |
| Gorgeous day (for the most part). Carried snowshoes and an ice axe, didn't use either. At 8:20a, a few clouds started building. At 9:20 it started snowing. At 10:15a, with less than 1/4 mi from the summit and still no thunder, we called it quits. The air was so ionized (buzzing, poles shocked us, even my hair pins were vibrating against my head, etc.) that we high tailed it straight down the rocky South face to the nearest batch of trees (took 1.5 hours to "high tail" it down the loose rock, while thunder began in the distance). We followed a stream to S Colony Rd and called it a day...thankful to not be another statistic. Still a GREAT day. I hope next time that the weather will work in our favor. | ||

| Ben and I climbed summitted in the evening of May 1st, only six days before TalusMonkey died climbing Humbolt. We left the Sangre de Cristo Range May 5th due to horrible weather conditions after spending 12 days climbing in the range. We summitted Broken Hand Peak earlier that morning. | ||

| A good hike with good friends! Don't beat up your car on the approach into the South Colony Creek Drainage. It's a long walk from the 2WD trailhead, but the South Colony Lakes make for excellent camping. We also saw many big horn sheep. | ||

| This was a weak consolation hike after getting rained out of the area with big plans for a bunch of the technical routes. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to go back. | ||
