It is very steep and hard work to get through the penitentes. Sometimes crampons would not be bad on this part.

What make the snow melt like this? I have seen this happen on a much smaller scale but this photo is incredible

Because of the heat of the sun and at the same time the strong winds that are on this mountain. The wind looking for his way through the snow and the sun melt it down. That is how these nice "Penitentes" come like this! Sorry for my English. German and English isn't exactly the same. Do you do climbing as well Kane?
