That is a good question! I was wondering that too since everything in the area is named after this fella! There is a very famous V7 problem there called Big Joe, the crack I was on was called Joe's Crack, etc. Whoever he was, he sure made himself famous. I need to get out and find a sweet valley and call it Dan's Valley...
