Karstic spring of the Soca/Isonzo river

Karstic spring of the Soca/Isonzo river

Vertical panorama of the Soca river spring. This is beginning of the 140km long journey, before the river empties into the Adriatic Sea near Monfalcone, Italy. During Pleistocene, Soca was entering the Adriatic Sea near Pula/Istria. After holocene, however, streams of all major rivers (Neretva, Zrmanja, Soca) contributing to the Adriatic Sea shortened. Among karstic rivers contributing to the Adriatic Sea, Soca has 3rd strongest flow (147 m3/sec), after Cetina (127 m3/sec) and Neretva (378 m3/sec).
