Winter Hikes to Kaylor
My first hike to Kaylor Knob was in January 2009. I took the Massanutten South and Second Mountain Trails to the summit. Boone Run was slowly freezing over, and there were a couple of inches of snow on the ground. It was about 16 or 17 degrees Fahrenheit, and I was drinking little ice crystals by the time I got to my last water bottle. I saw wild turkey tracks in the snow on the Second Mountain Trail.
My second hike was at the beginning of March 2010. I took the Kaylor Knob Trail to the summit. There was still plenty of wet, heavy snow on the ridge left over from the early February storms.
