Car climbing Emmons-Kings Ridge - 53 mile loop  Sucess!

This was a last big 50+ mile training day for Wasatch 100 2016. Started at Swift Creek Campground 4:15am. Went up Swift Creek trail 4.5 miles then stayed NE of Swift Creek & bushwhacked to Grayling Lake, then NE up valley and gained ridgeline to Emmons. Long boulder and slab-hopping to Kings (mile 18.5). Wanted to bail but decided to get to lower altitude and see how I felt. Sure enough felt better and kept with original plan. Took the Highline Trail over Tungsten Pass, then to Five Points Lake. Next took trail over to Yellowstone Creek, then up to Milk Lake and over to Farmers Lake. Final push was down past Deer Lake to my car. Made it back around 1am. Strava logged for 38 miles at https://www.strava.com/activities/666999041. My hardest solo training day due to all the altitude and boulder hopping in first 18.5 miles - brutal. But EPIC! I would not recommend hiking Milk to Deer or vice-versa at night - cairns mark the trail in meadows and are very hard to spot at night with 100 lumen or lower light.

A Long Day No Matter how you look at it.  Sucess!

July 25, 2016 With Signe Gines. Started from our camp one miles north of Dollar Lake at 3:37 a.m. Stood/sat on top of Mt. Emmons at 4:33 p.m. West wind of 15-20 mph the entire day didn't help with the 50 degrees temperature. We were threatened several times with long dark lines of cumulus clouds dripping dark rain, but all of them blew by either to the north or to the south of our positions. We returned to camp by taking the Emmons north ridge and then bush whacking west of Lake Atwood to the Trail Rider Pass before generally following the trail from there back to Gunsight Pass, etc. Total time from start to finish was t few minutes more than 21 hours. What happened at Trail Rider Pass? I'll leave that to the reader's imagination.

Epic adventure  Sucess!

Fred Gabriel and I did this in a nightmarish 19-hour day. See my entry under Kings-Emmons Ridge in Mountains & Rocks. (Why is it both places?)
