Koenigsspitze North Face in early morning light. Photo shot summer 2000 during an attempt at 'Hintergrat Ridge' to the Ortler. An attempt to Koenigsspitze would have been deadly this day: too warm and lots of impressive avalanches. We even got stuck at Ortler.

first ascent of Koenigspitze north face

I think you mix two things: the first ascent of Koenigspitze north face about 1930 was done by Hans Ertl. Kurt Diemberger is still an active alpinist. He did the first ascent directly over the famous big corniche (in the sixties?)

Yes, you are right. I have corrected the capture. The big corniche was called 'Schaumrolle' and certainly was the crux of the route. Isn't Hans Ertl one of the Nanga Parbat guys ?
