Kozi Wierch from Kozie Czuby

Kozi Wierch from Kozie Czuby

The last piece of ascent of Kozi Wierch (2,291m) viewed from Kozie Czuby (2,266m), over Kozia Przełęcz Wyżnia (Upper Goat Col). After enlarging, the trail marks and chains can be seen. The col is one of the "black spots", where several people have fallen to their death. The year 2005 was especially bad: Three young people (twenty to thirty years old) lost their balance and got killed during the summer and autumn, although when they were there the weather was good and the rock dry. Despite the chains, rungs and ladders Orla Perć is NOT a via-ferrata like those in the Alps. There is no cable to which you could clip yourself, which means that you are unprotected unless you wear a via-ferrata set and use the chains as if they were cables. This is possible and recommended by the national park authority but it is awkward and hardly anybody bothers to do so.

Re: Memorable place

You were lucky you didn't on your ascent/descent of Rysy. I think I'll link your story to my route page as an example of the summer hazards.
