Kugy band

Kugy band

This is an interesting view to one of the famous features of Triglav and its north wall. Kugy band is a narrow and extremely exposed ledge which connects the western and the eastern side of the giant. It is named by the great explorer Julius Kugy, but he himself claimed that he was only the first person who crossed the band without a mountain goat on shoulder. Wild hunters from Trenta had used that passage for decades before him, when hunting on the eastern side of Triglav. Today the passage is almost exclusively used by climbers who finish with the north wall climbs and head towards Kredarica hut. The ledge is dangerous especially if there are still rests of snow. Below it it's a sheer wall of 1500 meters, because if there were not this narrow ledge, one could consider the north wall of Triglav stretching up just to the top of the mountain - some 1800 m. Interesting!

I remember from all those years ago, when I was at Aljažev dom, what the Triglav north wall looks like...amazing to think that hunters crossed this incredibly exposed and very narrow-looking band!!

Re: Interesting!

From a distance it's hard to judge. I also never did this passage, so I can not say how difficult it is. But it is exposed.
