Leatherman Route Map

The red line outlines the path we followed to the summit of Leatherman Peak. The route begins with a steep slog up through loose rock. There is a a faint trail that can be found but at times we found ourselves moving off the trail of loose scree onto places with a little bit more solid footing. Once in the bowl, the gradient gives a little as you meander around the hills of the moraine. Then at the base of the snowfield, which in some years is completely gone by late summer, the grade steepens considerably. We skirted up the left side of the snowfield all the way to the top of the ridge. From the ridge, the summit of Leatherman appears to be some distance but came much more easily than our eyes were telling us.
