Leaving Yang Yang Lakes, the...
Leaving Yang Yang Lakes, the second camp and end of Stage 3 of the Ptarmigan Traverse. The S face of Spider Mountain is in the background, across the cirque at the head of Flat Creek.
The length of stages and location of camps are not written stone; our own party in 1991 didn't have time to reach Yang Yang Lakes after climbing Hurry-up (S Mountain) on our second morning. We dropped down from the col visible at the left end of Spider and traversed to the exposed rock rib that shows as a vertical gray line near the photo's left edge. We found space for our tents at about 6500 feet, and stayed two nights, climbing Mount Formidable on our third day.
