Leontopodium Alpinum in Gran Paradiso National Park

Leontopodium alpinum or Stella Alpina or Edelweiss – Picked up without pity, about 15-20 years ago this beautiful alpine flower became a rarity; as a matter of fact the Italian botanist Pignatti declared it as a species on the way of extinction. Because of an increasing environmental sensitiveness the Queen of the Alps now is coming back to spread on the highest pastures and even near the paths.
