Lesser Celandine (Ficaria verna) is a common low-growing perennial from the Family Ranunculaceae (Buttercup). In Poland, it is considered to be a native plant. It likes shady areas and moist soils. It blooms from March to June. Flowers are yellow, but turn white as they age. They are pollinated by insects. The flowers do not open in bad weather. The leaves are dark green and heart shaped. All parts of the plant are poisonous. The toxins are of low toxicity and they are easily destroyed by heat or by drying.
