this photo was taken from a slope about 1/2 mile west of amphu lapcha la- i left chukkung and spent a day scrambling up the northern slopes of amphu gyabjen as high as i could go, trying to stay directly across from the lhotse face - the amphu lapcha la is still farther up the valley - as is the giant glacial lake by island peak - i couldn't see the pass, but i could see the lake, down and to my right.
