Lithology of Western Julian Alps

Lithology of Western Julian Alps

The image shows that the predominant rock structure of Western Julian Alps is dolomia principale (on the north chain also schlern dolomite). On the eastern part (especially on Canin massif), it is superimposed by dachstein limestone. And, on the northern part of the group, a big variety of rocks is present. The western part (left of Fella river) shows also a part of Carnic Alps (Zuc del Bor group). Source: Carulli, G.B. (1971): Le rocce, i minerali e le pietre utili. Enciclop. Monogr.
