Livenza is one of the most beautiful and interesting rivers of the Southern Alps. Its karstic source (of Vaucluse type) is on the altitude of only some 50 m, but its narrow stream soon becomes deep. That's why already in Antiquity it was navigable from the Adriatic sea to its sources. The Palud area (this picture) was inhabited already in neolithic times. Pile dwellings were discovered and the site is today a part of UNESCO protected pile dwelling sites around the Alps. Foto: Jasmina Pogačnik, January 1st, 2020.
