Lone Cone

Lone Cone in Colorado. My friend Ray and I were camped on private property to the west of this dramatic peak. The reservoir in the foreground was being drained, we were told. Too bad, for surely it must be a prettier scene with that body of water filled. The mountain is the western-most of 12,000 foot peaks in the San Juan Range. A year later I would be up on Grand Mesa and see this prominent peak in the distance and realize how it truly does stand out by itself from the surrounding terrain. Lone Cone, a name well-deserved.
