Longs  Sucess!

Spent 10 summers in Estes and still hadn't climbed Longs. Everyone I knew had already climbed it and didn't want to go again so I went by myself (with hundreds of other people)

North slabs up, Keyhole down  Sucess!

The weather was nice and sunny although a bit cold and windy. Both the north slabs and the keyhole route had quite a bit of snow and some ice, making crampons and an ice axe a necessity.

Awesome.  Sucess!

The first attempt earlier that summer was a failure. My car got booted so we changed the planns and went to Flattop Mountain and we avoided a hailstorm on Longs that way. This weekend was just perfect, Elbert on Saturday, Longs on Sunday. Awesome. Definately, that time I found I am addicted.

The Meeker/Longs tour  Sucess!

This very long day started hiking up via the Loft to the saddle, from there I summited Mt. Meeker then back to the saddle, down to Keplinger`s couloir, and up to Longs` summit. The descent was via the Keyhole route completing the loop around Longs. The weather was great and the views incredible! This was peak #14 on day 10 of my 13 day trip.

First One  Sucess!

After training for 2 months, we were successful on our FIRST 14er attempt ever. Longs Peak is still my favorite 14er. Ascent took less than 5 hours, but I hope to improve on my time.

Finally  Sucess!

I kept putting Longs away because they don't allow dogs in the national park. I wanted so much for duchess to summit with me.
Up beaver (after summiting meeker), and down via old cables. Lovely day, tons of people on the summit.

Keyhole Route  Sucess!

10.5 hours. 230am start from a crowded parking lot. Good weather today, and lots of folks on the trail, plus a meteor shower made for a busy day.

Keyhole Route  Sucess!

Training hike for CMC trip to Mount Elbrus in August. This was my second time on Longs. We started after 3AM, reached the summit before 11 and got back around 4-4:30. We split into 2 groups (fast and slow) at the Keyhole, we met the slower group on the Homestretch as we left the summit. When I climbed Longs in 2009, I felt nauseous on the summit, but this time I felt fine. The weather was almost perfect, mostly sunny and not very windy, though it rained on us on the way back, and there was a cloud hanging directly over the summit, which cooled things down a bit. It was a long, successful day: everyone reached the top and made it back safely.

WOW...Took me to my limit.  Sucess!

1st 14er with my whole family. Kids did great. This hike took me and my wife to our limit. Was really worried I would have to get help for her. With the help of our middle son (thanks fro taking mom's pack Paul) she made it back to the Keyhole. From there all down hill. (But had lighting, thunder, hail, and then rain all the way back. It was AWESOME. We will never forget it!!!! St 1:09am, Keyhole 7:00am Summit 9:00am Truck 3:25pm

Keyhole Route not so bad :)  Sucess!

Beautiful clear but WINDY day led me to be even more careful in scrambling. Snow patch along right side of trough is completely avoidable. Watch out for ice in Homestretch (still!) as well as the silppery rock from the melting ice. Started at 3am, back to trailhead by 4:45 pm with ample rest breaks. Route not as challenging as expected based on trip reports.
