The rope teams above were getting pelted by chunks of ice constantly rolling down the slope. The top guy is about the tackle the near vertical ice section at the Pearly Gates.

What a crowd for November! If those groups really weren't placing pro they were putting themselves and those below them in quite a dangerous situation. The Chute was so icy that if someone started sliding self-arrest would not be a possibility.

You're absolutely right. We were very anxiously looking on. The other problem was, it was getting about 10am in the morning and ice chunks were coming down the chute constantly.



Part of the reason we didn't even try.
