Looking up from low in the south gully to....what is this one called? The South Summit of Yoran? Peak 7138 (which would mean it's actually 28 feet higher)? Is this a separate unnamed mountain? If so, why didn't I climb it then? :- 0

A favorite.

Brian:

I really like this one. The composition is great and the grandeur of it makes me want to climb and conquer. DR

Re: A favorite.

Thanks. Appreciate the nice words. Now that I did some research on this and see its actually taller than Yoran, I am kicking myself I didn't give it a shot too. Ah well, something for next summer I guess....

Good Pic Bad Rock

having just gotten back from a weekend in the Diamond Peak Wilderness and almost killing my buddy on this peak I can tell you not to bother. There is hardly a good rock on the peak...We traversed the ridge direct from Yoran and then up a gully and along the base of the spires before making our final summit push beginning at the major pinnacle on the ridge. There is a trail up the south ridge that's class 2 but don't bother climbing this pile from the north ridge.

Ah, good to know, thanks for the info. Hope you put up a page for this one so you get something for your trouble. Bet your weekend was better than mine-spent splitting and sawing up stumps in the backyard!

"There is hardly a good rock on the peak"

NO WAAAAY!!! Tho. I haven't climbed this peak, I KNOW that there's not a scrap of choss in Oregon - that's a fact! Solid quality rock only in our state.

Re: Good Pic Bad Rock

Isn't that the state motto? It's either that or "We don't deforest! Always a tree planted for each one harvested." Or maybe it's "Only drinkable water in our rivers." It's all so confusing.
