Thanks rdmc,

The tripod was in the water and I was on my hands and knees on a muddy shoreline. The camera was maybe a foot out of the water. I had the D700's Live View function activated for framing the composition... otherwise, I would have been on my belly in the water had I tried to use the eyepiece view finder!
