Ludwig Purtscheller

Born in Innsbruck Austria 6.10.1849 died due to complications after a fall on the Aiguille du Dru in France on 3.3 1900. Climbed over 1600 mountains including more than 40 4000ers and 5000ers in the European Alps, Caucasus and Africa. First guideless traverse of the Matterhorn in 1884. Fist ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro in 1889. He has a subsidiary summit in the French Alps named after him as well as a moss and a lichen.
