Lunag Ri Massif

Lunag Ri Massif seen From Cho Oyu ABC - click to see the description Lunag Ri is located at the border between Nepal and Tibet, just across Nangpa La (foreground). The main summit has a prominence of 1175m, and all peaks in the massif are unclimbed, to the exception of Jobo Rinjang (aka Lunag Ri South East, 6778m, located fully within Nepal), which was successfully ascended on 22 April 2009 by David Gottlieb and Joe Puryear. Joe Puryear tragically died in October 2010 while attempting Lapche Kang I (7367m) in Tibet. Jobo Rinjang (6778m) should not be confused with Jobo Rabzang (6666m), located 12.5km further north. More Info

I have a little update that you may not be aware of. Lunag I was climbed on 27th October 2010 by four french climbers. They climbed a massive route on the SE Face and then descended the route. I only know this as I am travelling to attempt Lunag V and IV in October this year. Great picture though!

Re: More Info

Thanks for the info, I indeed did not know at all about this ascent. But by checking this and this link, it appear that they didn't make it to the very top of Lunag Ri (Lunag I). The latest list published by 8000ers.com still gives Lunag Ri as unclimbed. Best luck to your for this autumn!

Lama on Lunag Ri

The first ascent of Lunag Ri I was made by David Lama from Austria via the West pillar on Oct. 25 2018. The ascent was made solo in pure alpine style.
