Malovan (1709m) is almost a perfect cone, which makes it one of most beautiful peaks on Velebit. Northern side above continental terrace is made of cliffs while southern is grassy. Lower half of western side, which is seen here, that rises above deep basin which harbored zapadni Malovanski Stanovi (1460m) (western Malovan shepherds shelters), is under dense dwarf pine carpet. Dwarf pine is around 2m high and grows in dense colonies which are almost impassable. In winter is under snow. Photo taken from Vaganski Vrh – Sveto Brdo route, on the slopes of Brundo (1714m).
