Marlin atop Mauna Kea

Marlin atop Mauna Kea

Mauna Kea is 13,796' above sea level. Measured from its base, Mauna Kea is 4,000' higher than Mt. Everest. Visitors leave offerings to Madam Pele, the fire goddess. Pele-'ai-honua (Madam Pele) is both creator and destroyer of land. She throws molten fountains of lava into the air, governs the lava flows direction, and occasionally reveals herself in the lava flows at Kilauea. Her favorite drink is gin. Bad luck comes to those that remove her offerings or take her lava as a souvenir. Climbed in April, 2005.
