Medicine Bow Peak (South of the Summit)

Medicine Bow Peak (South of the Summit)

Seen from Sugarloaf Mountain. The summit of Medicine Bow is to the right and not visible here. The face on the right in this picture is called Old Main; to its right is Old Main Couloir. Also visible are the couloirs above Lookout Lake, which are steeper and narrower than Old Main Couloir and more fun to climb. Snowy Range, WY-- July 2009

I was just up there...

... about a month ago, and surprised at how much snow there was still. Wasn't climbing unfortunately.

I grew up in Saratoga so this is my old stomping grounds. I love the area.

Re: I was just up there...

I've been there something like seven times now, almost always around early July, and I had never seen so much snow there as there was this time. The trails were mostly buried and some of the roads blocked. But the climbing on all the snow was great fun, and I did a lot of it.

I love the area, too. The scenery is awesome, and you just can't beat the short approaches and high-altitude starts. A perfect mountain playground.
