I have...

always liked this story. Enough so that I come back to it to read from time to time. I've only hiked rarely in griz country. Saw two. One very far away sleeping in a bed it had dug out of a riverbank on the Lamar River. The other one on the way up Avalanche Peak. It saw me first and moved away steadily at a good clip and I only got a few lousy photos of it. I hope that most of my griz encounters are like those two...at a very comfortable distance.

I will never carry a gun. Not anywhere, much less into wilderness. I also don't want to be around people who do carry guns. I'll keep the pepper spray on the holster and hope that does the job if it ever comes to that.

Heading to Glacier in August for my first trip there. I hope to see griz there. From a nice distance.

Re: I have...

It's always with mixed feelings that I see a griz, especially the closer they are.

I'm glad you keep the spray holstered. I have actually read accounts of idiots keeping it in their packs!
