Just Cones

Icy Limber Pine ConeA cold Utah Limber Pine cone

In the botanical world, strobilus refers to any cone-like structure of sporophylls on an axis. This could be many things, but for this album, its just a fancy way of saying: Pine Cones. Specifically the larger, woody female cones (male cones are micro-strobili) we used to threw at each other on the playground when we were kids. We would get in trouble, sent to the principal's office and sometimes get a paddling. But we would do it again the next day. Its just the pull the cones had on us. Today we love to admire their beauty, use them for artistic purposes, throw them for the dog to fetch or toss into the campfire to watch 'em burn. (and occasionally still throw at people)

If you have some good photos of pine cones, throw them here.

Nice album!

mrh,

I'm a real plant nerd, always the one slowing down the group to look at some tree, shrub or wildflower. I really like and appreciate this album!

Re: Nice album!

I'm a plant nerd to (I also answer to botany bozo or veg head). I always go alone because trip time doubles from all my stops to take pictures or make collections. I'm glad you liked the album.
