Moby Dick

[ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Moby Dick
Moby Dick (II - III 5.8) route on the south/southeast face of Whale Dome. Belays indicated with P#. Note the three climbers on P3 (one is at P2 belay, one enroute on P3, and one at top of P3). P2 belay is on a good (small) ledge with a tiny tree; P3 belay is off of a chicken head (can supplement by clipping the first bolt of P4); P4 belay is on a perfect little "balcony" with two bolts; P5 belay is sort of arbitrary and gearless on a low angle slab (with many dikes). To descend, you rap off the summit (line not visible) and hike down to the base of the route via gully on the left (class 2-3). Photo taken New Year's Day 2005.
