Windy  Sucess!

Hiked up from Brainard Lake. Started around 6:00am and summited about 9:00am and after being knocked down twice by wind on the descent to the saddle with Paiute I decided to bail on any further peaks for the day and was back home around 1:30pm. First Indian Peak summit since moving to Westminster from Colorado Springs back in October. Amazing place - I will be back for more!

Brainard Lake  Sucess!

A great day to spend with my wife on our 9th wedding anniversary. The road to Mitchell Lake TH was closed, so we hiked from the Brainard Lake parking area and added around two miles to the trip. It was fairly windy, but tolerable at the summit. It would have been rough in colder conditions. Being that it was in the mid 90's in town, we weren't anywhere near freezing up top. It was really clear and the views were fantastic. Awesome day!

WINDY!!!  Sucess!

I almost decided to turn around a few times because the winds were so high (almost 70 mph according to someone taking measurements). I reached the summit in the late afternoon with my dog, and the views were great. Passed a family with a baby while I was headed back down...hope they decided to turn back for the kid's sake.

Windy, windy, windy, but beautiful  Sucess!

I hiked from Mitchell Lake Trailhead/Beaver Creek Trailhead to the summit of Mt. Audubon. Passed a few people that summited on the way up, but most out that day decided to turn around. The slope from the saddle to the summit was snowy, in some cases knee deep between rocks, and icy - glad I had ski poles (some hikers actually had ice axes). Sustained winds of 47mph up top with gusts of 67mph - wind chill putting temps down into 10s. Beautiful view!

A great day for it....  Sucess!

in spite of a biting, cold wind above treeline. Hiked the standard trail. Encountered very few folks on a Wednesday in September. Impressive size and number of rock shelters on the summit!

Mount Audubon and Mount Naudubon  Sucess!

Climbed Mount Audubon from Brainard Lake Trailhead. Awesome views of Longs Peak, Meeker and Pagoda from the trail, as well of Paiute, Toll, Pawnee and Navajo Peaks from the summit.

I hit Naudubon "Notabon" (12,706 ft / 3,873 mt) on the way back to the trailhead since it was right there.

This trip was proof that the easiet mountain in the summer can be one of the hardest in winter--16 miles rt with a good road closure and snowstorm.
