| Fifty three minutes to the top on the West Side Trail. I still had plenty of ice to keep things interesting under the trees. I could see why my friend Jeff Mathis likes this place though. The exposed bedrock top had incredible views that were even better than Monadnock. | |

| Did the Upper Holt trail as a solo hike on a Friday, then returned with my Dad on Sunday. A bit more ice on Friday which made the going tough, but it had mostly melted by Sunday. The last leg of Upper Holt is something special, indeed. | ||

| For an eastern peak this is a nice hike. Not to hard, but it offers a variety of routes and has some nice rock on the top to scramble around on. The views of the hills are also nice. | |

| Cathedral Forest trail in the snow was an easy hike to the summit. Thin ice and rock above treeline. Plenty windy but nice shelter behind the fire tower to enjoy cold thanksgiving leftovers. | |

| Climbed up the West Ridge and South Ridge Trails, over the summit and down to the saddle between Cardigan and Firescrew. The kids and I saw "Grotto Cave" labeled on the map and were curious. After discovering the herd path leading off the ledges we descended a few hundred vertical feet and found a fun, small cave the kids could climb over and under. Class 2 getting down there (and back up), but even my 5 year old loved it. Cool, windy weather on top. Hats and fleece required that day. | |

| Did it with Cub Scout Pack 1620 as part of an event I plan called the Cubmaster's Challenge. 30 of us went as a group up Manning over Firescrew and down Holt (via the cutoff). Unfortunately it was a rainy day so the views were a bit diminished but all in all it was a great time. | |

| I climbed Mt. Cardigan twice (both in summer), once when I was 13, and again at age 14. The first time we climbed it had rained the previous day and I got stuck on exposed rock near the summit, and unable to get an adequate foothold. Another kid got stuck, and was in danger of falling, and we had to all together pull him up. I can still remember the scared look on his face! Cardigan was a tricky climb that day. It was the first time I ever got in trouble on a mountain and doubted my safety. You think that discouraged me from climbing? HELL NO! Cardigan was a fun climb from my youth, and I'd like to do it again some day. I mostly remember the big rock on the trail with a big crack in the middle. I cut my hand badly the first time I had to climb up that rock. The trail was definitely class 2, and FUN! | |
