| I simul -soloed this route with Eric Aldenhoff. The ice was plastic the going was easy. Definitely one of the great one-day alpine climbs in the North East. | ||

| My first introduction to ice climbing. Cold weather and postholing and my first time wearing double boots made for a lot of work, but the euphoria at the summit was worth it. | ||

| A VERY COLD first weekend in October (as you can see from the pictures). I don't remember much except for the frozen plants near the summit... and the fog... why climb a mountain except for the view? Sorry, I'm not one to enjoy suffering for the sake of suffering. :) | ||

| My first high peak summit, and hiked it with my brother Chris, Dan, Tom, and Mike. We went up through the dyke, which was definitely a challenge (good thing Dan brought his chaw for the "energy" it provides). After spending much of my life hiking trails in the southern or western Adirondacks, I'm hooked on the high peaks region. Thanks Mike. | ||

| Nice, steep hike up from Lake Colden, seemed quite a bit easier going down towards Lake Arnold. BTW, on this particular day, Lake Arnold was a nice sight. A word to the wise: in May 2003, we had to turn back because it was just too icy to negotiate without crampons. | ||

| Fun climb, I'd call it 4th class. Maybe some 5.0 or 5.1 climbing on the steps in the dike. The slide has some gut check sections. I belayed my wife across a few spots. Gear: a couple of 4 ft slings and a few larger nuts. I soloed everything then belayed Margaret on 50ft of 7mm cord. | ||

| My wife and I spend a week at Lake Colden in 1994. Day one was a pretty long and hard backpack, so on day 2 we decided to have a "rest day" and bag Colden. Excellent views! I definitely want to get back there and do the trapdike, maybe in winter. Turned out to be a great trip, my only regret is neglecting to include Skylight the day we did Marcy and Haystack. | ||

| 11 hour round trip from the LOJ. we had a lazey 8am start and were out under glow of head lamp 630-7 we only encountered deep snow (waist high) in the dike, but once on the slide it was mostly wind packed snow or verglass. | ||

| My two friends and I climbed via the trap dyke. It is my favorite hike in the ADK High Peaks. However, we failed to cut over to the rock slide at the correct point and thus we ended up in a horrible bushwhack to the summit. We did not find the slide until we reached the summit. I will climb this route again the correct way! #5089 | ||

| Took my 11 y/o son on this 14+ mile jaunt to the summit. Just a boy and his dad, you can't ask for anything more. Perfect day (clear and low 70's) made for a spectacular view. One of the nicest summits I've been on, plus it is fairly easy to get to. Spent over an hour all by ourselves on the summit. Not bad for a summer weekday. Plan on going up this one again with the wife and daughter (9 y/o). | ||

| Lake Arnold sucked for me too. I was stuck in a three day rain and sleet storm that forced me to cut my plans short from climbing Mt. Marcy and other mountains. The view from Mt. Colden was excellent, but the view from the nearby false summit was even more impressive. The best part in an otherwise disasterous trip. | ||

| Lake Arnold sucks. Its a bug infested mud hole with a bad trail. But the views from Colden are unbeatable. Well worth the mud. | ||

| Amazing expierence. Totaly out of this world. Only complantent was being laughed at by several DEC employees at the Noonmark Diner when we told them we were doing the dike. Also, my dad (who dosent rock climb) didn't have the greatest time on the waterfall. | ||
