these mountains were over populated, enough folks to start a small village at the summit of democrat. i still loved this hike, even though there were too many people the day we went i found that most the other hikers we spoke with were over all genuinely into the outdoors and hiking. don't get me wrong there was still the mountains fair share of caffè latte totin tourons to contend with.

Did the standard triple bagger route from Kite Lake. Except I got off the trail early and ended up scrambling up the scree to Democrat. That wore me out! Started at 8 am and summitted Democrat at 9:45 am. (By the way, not to diminish anyone's accomplishments or anything, but Cameron doesn't count as a fourteener!)

Third of 10 fourteeners in 6 days. #11 overall.

I meant to climb Bross, Lincoln, Democrat but the gated jeep road that I thought went up Bross went to the Democrat-Cameron saddle so I just went the other way around. Good weather. 3:52 car to car.

My son, Patrick, and grandson, Shawn, and I climbed all 4 summits, and would have climbed South Bross if it hadn't rained. Had a nice glissade off the summit. Shawn turned back before we started up from the saddle. Almost got run over by a mountain biker as I summited Bross. I wonder if he guessed what I ment when I ignored his wave?

I drove to Bross and climbed Lincoln. Not much of a climb, but then I did Democrat. I didn't carry any water, and the wind was really blowing. Crossing the connecting ridge was relatively easy but coming back was really hard. I got hypothermia from dehydration.

Knocking off 3 in one day is an awesome feeling! I think hiking these 3 gave me the desire to keep going and see if I can finish all 54 peaks in Colorado that are 14,000 or more feet high!

Somehow I ended up at Lake Emma, Mt. Buckskin, some class 3 climbing, and a steep glissade on the descent. Definitely not the standard route. It was only my 2nd day at altitude (from Florida), not enough acclimation to do Lincoln and Bross today.

The first peak of 3 (or four if you count the bump called Cameron). What a great traverse. I hope to do it as a ski traverse in winter.

Easy summit after steep climb to East Ridge I. Very open and crowded, had to really search for a place to go the bathroom. Not one of the quieter peaks and definetly did not like the jeep road people can take almost all the way up Bross. Felt like Pikes Peak with cars at top of mountain.

Democrat was the 3rd of 5 fourteeners that my partner and I climbed in 5 days. Pretty easy hike up, a well defined trail from thousands of feet! Fantastic views from the summit. We had intended to do all three peaks, but we got a late start and the weather was not looking good (the early morning was rainy and cloudy that day), so we came back down. Another day for Lincoln and Bross! Roach states in his book 'Colorado's Fourteeners' that you must park passenger cars at a switchback below the creek. Not so. The creek has a nice bridge over it now and you can drive all the way up to the lake. Get there early though, if you want a parking place!

I did this in the same day along with Bross and Lincoln. What a cool view back over to Freemont Pass.

As is usual, this was the first of these 4 peaks we climbed that day....Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, and Bross, in that order. Beautiful hike, but certainly not alone. We chatted with many along the way, including a 7-yr-old boy on his way down who had just done his first 14er, and an older chap in his 80's who was making his annual birthday climb of this trio with the aid of a friend and a cane. We were impressed!!

We intended to do 4 14ers this day. My buddy Duane made all 4 (Sherman, Democrat, Lincoln, Bross), but I only got Sherman and Democrat. The previous week was brutal for me with 3 nights of little or no sleep, including the drive to Colorado from Washington. I had run the Hood to Coast Relay in Oregon one week earlier, which is an all-night event and involved over 17 miles of running in three legs. Then an all-night drive two days later, then this 4 days later. So my body was entirely wasted after summitting Democrat, and I watched Duane head on over to Lincoln without me. I barely made it down the mountain to the car. When I got there I layed back the seat and crashed. It was nearly dark before he finally stumbled into the parking lot, satisfied but also exhausted. Then we had to drive to Boulder! How crazy are we anyway??? ;-)
