Route Climbed: Crawford Path/ Eisenhower Date Climbed: Dec 10, 2004
We left Crawford Notch just after daybreak, climbing slowly on Crawford Path, crunching through a few inches of dry snow. At intersection of Webster Cliff Trail, we put on our crampons, as the exposed parts of the trail on the ridge were completely covered in 1 - 2" of ice and rime coated every tree and boulder. Air temperatures were about 22ยบ, wind was 40 - 50 knots on the ridge, visibilty limited to 200 - 300 yards. We ascended quickly to the summit, then retraced our steps on Crawford Path to pick up Mt. Pierce - then down below the ridge, postholing 12 - 18" in dry powdery snow, to camp that night at Nauman Tent Site.

Day 2: Somewhat more haggard, but with spirits still high, we traversed the Southern Presidential range (including the lovely but under-appreciated Middle Sasquatch Mountain and Eisenhower) on our way to Mt. Monroe, Lake of the Clouds storm shelter (in which we were allowed to huddle for $6 per person). Rising winds and falling temperatures, not to mention a whole variety of joint injuries, were harbingers to our sound thumping by Mother Nature.

It was a beautiful day, we bagged most of the southern Presis by taking the very gentle Crawford Path and following the ridge.

Route Climbed: Edmands/Crawford Paths Date Climbed: May 1996, July 1998My favorite NH peak, bar-none. The Edmands Path is a wonderful trail and the views of Washington and the Presi's from the summit are incredible!
