| My 3rd 14er (my 1st solo) and my 3rd state highpoint! Woke up to a nasty gray day, with a black cloud over my chosen mountain, but the nastiness held back and I made it to the summit...the things we do when it's our last free day in Colorado... | ||

| I climbed with Dan Updegraff of Andover, KS. We arrived from Kansas on the preceding night and climbed the next morning. It is possible to climb without acclimating to the altitude--just more of a challenge. It was 48 degrees at the summit, according to a fellow hiker. We met a 71 year old man up top. The hike down warmed up considerably, with no rain as had been forecast. If you hike, go on a weekday, it's a lot less crowded than it was in the Mt. Elbert trailhead parking lot on the next morning (Saturday). | ||

| Learned a valuable lesson; take the small camera and no tripod. Beautiful day great climb. This is my first 14er summit. I am from Arkansas where there is plenty of oxygen. Quite a different story at 14,000 feet. | ||

| We set out in early afternoon and were blessed with a cloudless, bluebird day. Also, upon reentering treeline, we happened upon a gi-normous porcupine climbing up practically the first tree we saw. Super hike and not nearly as long as everyone seems to believe. | ||

| What a wonderful hike! 4.5 hours up and only 2 hours down! The grassy tundra near treeline was particularly beautiful, and so was the panorama of seemingly all of Colorado at the top! | ||

| Started up at 5:35AM reached the summit at 8:23 after a brief rain & sleet shower about 20 mins from the top. 4 people on top who had all climbed up from Twin Lakes. Stayed on the summit 'til 8:50, back down to the trailhead at 10:56 with lots of people heading up. My 14th 14'er and another beautiful Colorado morning, sweet!! | ||

| First 14er, after being thwarted on Massive the previous week. The Black Cloud route was definitely a strenous way to summit and descend Elbert. Lots of loose rock on the switchbacks. | ||

| The stories are true. It's a walk to the top, but it's not easy! The trails are straight up the mountain with no switchbacks. You're thighs will be having a conversation with you the entire trip up. Take the South Mt. Elbert trail if you want something a little easier. It's a longer walk, but far more gradual! I had a nice stay in the glacial bowl beneath the peak one nice and finished the next. Much nicer than pounding it out as a day hike. The Afternoon storms did come is as all the books said. Around 3pm-5pm I had to small rain showers come through. Just sat it out in my tent. Luckily no lighting. Enjoy it. My first CO 14're Derek | ||

| Pretty easy trail - but the false summits and steepness towards the top play with you a bit. 3 hrs, 25 mins to summit - definitely not moving too fast. My first crowded summit experience. Strange. Cool mountain though. Trip report to come | ||
