| spannring29 | Great Solo Hike ![]() Date Climbed: Jul 19, 2006 | |
| A great day for a hike--blue skies and a light breeze all the way. I really enjoyed the hike below treeline and the summit views were great. In spite of it being a Wednesday, the trail was quite crowded with people heading up as I was headed down. | ||

| We decided to beat the lightning storms/weather by climbing at night. The next day it was completely shrouded in clouds and lightning storms. I managed to get a few minute long exposures by moonlight. On a side note...my blue heeler puppy went with us and got to be carried down part of the way. | ||

| Southeast Ridge, 10 miles. Elbert is a good hike with great views. I've done both the Northeast Ridge & the Southeast Ridge. I'd recommend the Southeast Ridge, it is much less crowded on any given day. | ||

| A decent hike that was pretty uneventful until we met tons of people on the top. A good one to check off the list. | ||

| Our first Fourteener ever and enjoyed every moment of it. Bagged South Elbert along the way. The two of us plus our dog had the main summit all to ourselves for the whole half hour. Hard to believe, since it seems to be one of the most popular summits in CO. | ||

| Climbed from the parking lot out on the road to Twin Lakes as there was lots of snow. Snowshoes to the ridge then the wind had blown it bare. 5 hrs up, 2 1/2 down, 11.2 miles RT 4,850 vertical. Great climb but very windy after noon. | ||

| atavist | thunderstorm direct ![]() Date Climbed: Aug 15, 2000 | |
| Starting after noon, the ranger or tourist chief was a bit surprised that I intended to dayhike and summit that same day. As would be predicted by any Colorado local, the clouds came in and the static built up in the air. I took cover and waited out the storm. I was able to summit and had to overcome the slow onset of AMS. Within 24 hours the road trip finished and I was back in Indiana. | ||

| This was the last 14er I climbed before moving out of Colorado. I climbed it with my brother on that day, and it was his first 14er (but 12th high point). | ||

| My 10th 14er (after I tried it and failed as my first). A light snow covered the mountains, which made the hike a tad slow, but the view from the top spectacular! | ||

| #1 9-4-06 With Eric and Any F., former Aconcagua hiking partners, I left the northeast TH at 5:35 a.m. Three and one half hours later I reached the summit where a grand, slightly tattered American flag was rippling in the stiff but bearable breeze. My friends arrived about half an hour later, and together we celebrated a beautiful day with about a dozen other enthusiasts including three dogs. #2 9-1-12 Mit toller Partnerin from north TH. Wind. Up & down before torrential rains "dampened" the day! Always, always do this thing early is the watch word. | ||

| This was the second attempt on Elbert, after a winter attempt in last Nov. Did an acclamatization hike near Aspen, from the Maroon Bells Lake to Buckskin Pass on 2nd Sept, and climbed Mt. Elbert on Sept 3rd. It was a beautiful day, a great hike, and an amazing trip, with awesome company ! | ||

| My Frontier flight landed at Denver around 9am, drove to North trailhead arriving at 1pm, started climb with hopes of dry skies, on top 3.5hrs later with incredible views! On the decent, altitude adjustment from living at sea level started catching up, got a nice headache, but worth it. | ||
