SjboatwrightFirst hike in the high peaks  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 28, 2012

Being new to the high peaks, my small group was unprepared for the strenuous hike. With too little water, too little patience, and not a lot of experience, we made it through somehow!

technicolorNHice and mud  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 8, 2012

Took me three hours and fifteen minutes from the Loj to the summit and three hours to descend. It had snowed the night before so the muddy trails of the lowlands gave way to ice and snow above 3500 feet. Good weather the day of the hike so the views were fantastic.

Summited w/50-60 others. 250 total projected for the day. Weather was pretty good, trail conditions excellent for the traffic. Nice views.

highlandvillagerA nice surprise  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 21, 2012

We arrived at night, unable to see much of anything, and awoke to the beautiful Adirondack fall scenery. The views just got better as we headed up the Van Hoevenburg Trail, especially at Marcy Dam with all of the color and peaks surrounding it. The summit was very windy and cloudy, and by the time we left, crowded. This was a fun hike and a great finish to a week of summits that also included Mansfield, Washington, and Katahdin. HP44

RedwicNice Hike!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 9, 2012

In general, I had not been a fan of most mountain hikes near the East Coast. Mount Marcy changed that, for me. I really enjoyed the hike. I was the first person at the summit that day, too. The waether seemed to be favorable until reaching the small hill below the summit hill, and then the wind started racing and the views greatly diminished. But I still had a great time! This was my 44th State Highpoint.

After driving to three state high points (PA, FL, KY), I wanted a real hike. My friend and I decided to make a man-weekend of it and climbed Marcy on a positively beautiful day in the wake of Hurricane Lee. 14+ miles was certainly a hike, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Left Slant Rock to climb haystack, relax a bit and down to lake Tears of the cloud to do a rapid ascent-descent of Skylight (missed it last year when doing Gray). We then went on to climbed Marcy. We had the summit to ourselves and the stewart. Super day. We climbed down to Slant Rock.

My first trip climbing in the Adirondacks and we went for the highest! Had an absolute perfect day and probably spent 2 hours on the summit!

Long hike through the trees. Amazing views on top. Unfortunately we got chased off the summit by rain.

apeAborted Great Range traverse  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 25, 2012
Started at 2am from the Loj for a Great Range traverse. Weather was decent enough until we crossed treeline. Atop Marcy there was 20-30ft visibility, high winds, and very slick rocks -- not at all safe traverse weather! We turned back, hit Phelps on the way back, and took a (freezing!) dip in the river just above Marcy Dam.

huskertriguyNew York Dishes Out some Suffering  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 16, 2012

via South Meadow to Marcy Dam Route.

Made it up and back in about 8 hours (slower coming down, as my brother threw out his back - hadn't hiked in a while - and I suffered either a broken foot or a serious sprain about 2 miles above the dam). My mother the nurse practitioner is trying to tell me to stay off it for a while; we'll see how long that lasts.

Beautiful views; fun hike. That last 1.2 miles to the summit were more than we'd anticipated.

After living in NY for years, I decided it was time for me to finally claim the HP. I came in by way of Marcy Dam, and encountered snow by 3500'. i was thankful for the rented MSRs, and put them to use up to about 5000' when the snow gave way to the exposed rocks near the top. Looking back on it now, I was comically overpacked - but you have to start somewhere!

Had a nice overnight near the south meadow trailhead, had an alpine start and summited around noon. It was a long day, but a good one.

Bezoar Goat

I called the Adirondak Loj to find out about trail conditions, & the attendant said "you'll need crampons or stabilizers if you wanna summit" and I said "no, really?" and she said "yah, really."

She was right.

Not exactly an ADK winter, but I'll take it. Second time to climb it, clouds on the summit so I didn't stay long
